How I Stay Flexible and Get Things Done
Hi there! Happy Friday! I still get hyped for Fridays even though these days can feel a bit like groundhog days sometimes. One of the biggest changes from where I was last year to where I am now is how flexible my work area is. I work from anywhere and everywhere. Right now it is a hot afternoon and I’m sitting at my kitchen table with my iPad in its keyboard case, typing away. I love this case by the way and it works perfectly with my old classic iPad Air 2. Just this week I have worked from the front yard, in bed with a sleeping kiddo in my arms, the couch, the playroom, in line at IKEA and my computer desk.
BREAKING THINGS DOWN INTO TINY TASKS
Things are not as linear and I process plans through parts of the process, not start to finish in one sitting. Just not possible with kids, appointments and just life in general. I’m trying to be more fluid and react like water; things may come up but ripple accordingly. David Allen talks about this and observes how water reacts when a pebble is thrown in, little ripples. Then when a boulder is thrown in the water there is a huge splash. I am reacting more appropriately because many times I would give boulder water ripple reactions to small things and it just wasn’t necessary or healthy. I love this perspective and things are more digestible and productive in these small chunks of time for me anyway. All big goals are are tiny tasks/action items right? Breaking things down in this way helps me to not get as overwhelmed and just keep placing one foot in front of the other.
TOP PRIORITIES FOR TODAY
Today one of the tasks is to finish this post which means 3 weeks of posting Monday through Friday on this blog is complete! I received an order from the shop last night for two prints (thank you so much Massachusetts customer!) so I need to print, cut and ship it out. I need to get things out of our office closet so I can make headway on downsizing our paper files for the new file cabinet. This redesign of my art studio/office and upgrading the kid’s desk is like a slide puzzle process. Move this piece here, then this piece goes there...slide, slide..slide...success! Spoiler alert: I’m not the best at those puzzles but it is going down today! Progress over perfection, always.
Hope you have a great weekend! Don’t forget to take some time to chill for you, your littles or both and get a mermaid coloring page right here. Super fun to color and who can say no to mermaids?
Interested in painting too? I have a watercolor guide with videos! I share tips, tricks I wish I knew when I started painting.
